Lead From Compassion, Not Production
As we prepare for worship, it is critical to recognize that our past failures & fearful thoughts about how others perceive us often drive our desire for perfection in service. If His perfect love casts out all fear, then fear & worry should not be the foundation of our worship.
Embrace the Journey of Worship: Anticipating a Deeper Connection with Jesus
As worship leaders, we're on the brink of something profound. We often feel the pull to create the perfect service, meticulously rehearsing, analyzing every transition, and coordinating every lyric and lighting cue. While striving for excellence is important and preparation is key, imagine a moment when our desire for perfection transforms into a genuine longing for Jesus.
Psalm 63:1 echoes in our hearts: “You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.” In the days to come, let’s shift our focus back to God’s presence rather than merely flawless performances.
Leading with Love, Not Performance
Worship is not solely a task we undertake; it’s a beautiful response to God’s love. When we embrace this perspective in our future preparations, everything will change.
- We will transition from production to compassion. Our deep love for Jesus will naturally flow to those around us.
- We will replace fear with freedom. By seeking Jesus first, we will experience His grace, liberating us from the need to prove ourselves.
- We will create an inviting atmosphere for others to do the same. Leading from a place of surrender will demonstrate to our congregation what it means to actively seek God, not just sing about Him.
"May your longing for Jesus exceed your desire for perfection"
A Practical Shift: Begin with Anticipation
Before planning your next setlist, take a moment to pause and open your Bible. Pray Psalm 63:1 with anticipation: “You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you.” Reflect on these questions as you prepare:
1. What am I truly seeking right now—God’s presence or the approval of others?
2. How can I let God’s love shape my heart before leading others into worship?
Let your anticipation for Jesus fuel your worship leadership in the days ahead. May your longing for Jesus exceed your desire for perfection. When the love of Jesus flows through you, it will transform the moment in ways that far surpass any standard of perfection.
